Vogue Singapore now has cryptocurrency. This means an elevated digital experience for you, the reader, in which you can earn crypto by exploring our site, redeem exclusive Vogue rewards, and give back.
In order to make this experience a reality, Vogue Singapore has joined forces with Vidy, a blockchain-powered digital advertising tool. Traditional forms of banner videos intrude irritatingly on your reading habits, and Vidy was born out of a desire to move past that kind of reader-publisher relationship. As a step further, Vidy established VidyCoin as its native cryptocurrency in 2017. That ecosystem, now equipped on Vogue Singapore, allows readers to mine crypto by accessing video content.
How to mine cryptocurrency on Vogue.sg
(a) Look out for videos embedded within the text of Vogue.sg stories as denoted by pink highlights (exactly, just like the ones you see in this story);
(b) Hover over the pink highlight with your mouse (on desktop) or press and hold with your finger (on mobile) to see the embedded video pop up on your screen;
(c) You can click on the pink highlight (on desktop) or swipe up with your finger (on mobile) to enlarge the video and activate sound;
(d) Sign up to a free Vidy account by clicking on the VidyCoin counter on the top right of your screen to enter your email address and create a password;
(e) You now have a Vogue Singapore digital wallet tracking the amount of VidyCoin virtual currency you mine by simply watching embedded videos on Vogue.sg;
(f) The longer you watch a video, and the more videos you watch, the more you’ll earn (each account can mine up to $25 worth of crypto in this pilot project).
What can you redeem the cryptocurrency for on Vogue.sg?
Vidy has pledged a sponsorship of up to five million VidyCoins—the equivalent of approximately $8,200—for this pilot project. For our Singapore-based readers, you can redeem your VidyCoins for Vogue Singapore merchandise—such as our modish tote bag or a copy of our latest print issue. To give you an idea of the cryptocurrency’s value, watching approximately 25 videos in full in this pilot project will earn you the requisite cryptocurrency to redeem one tote bag.
And here’s the best part: a quarter of the value of all VidyCoin mined on Vogue.sg will be matched by Vidy and donated to the Vogue Singapore Foundation, which supports the development of young local creative talent.
How to redeem products with your cryptocurrency
To redeem, just click the top right-hand corner of your display while watching a Vidylink video to access your Vidy dashboard and the Vogue Singapore shop. From the ‘shop’ tab you can choose whether you would like to purchase a Vogue tote bag, the Dec/Jan issue of Vogue Singapore, or donate to the Vogue Singapore Foundation with your mined crypto.
Once you’ve exchanged your earned crypto for a tote bag or print issue, you’ll then be contacted by our team via email to be congratulated, and arrange delivery.
All readers, including those based outside of Singapore, will have the option to donate crypto to the Vogue Singapore Foundation.
Start mining cryptocurrency on Vogue.sg
Vogue Singapore will launch its crypto partnership with Vidy on Tuesday, 24 November at 12pm SGT. The pilot project will finish when all five million VidyCoins—approximately $8,200 worth of virtual currency—has been fully mined.
To officially begin your crypto journey, watch our exclusive Vogue Verified video—where our editor-in-chief Norman Tan and fashion director Desmond Lim combine their styling prowess to dream up three different looks for three occasions. Filmed in the Vogue Singapore office, Lim first had 15 seconds to dress our model for a dinner with her partner’s parents—an event that is often nerve-wracking. For his second task, Tan challenged Lim to come up with a look for a blind first date, which he executed perfectly with a Prada number. Finally, our dynamic duo picked their final task—to dress Emily from ‘Emily in Paris’. Kick back with a drink and an iPad, and get ready to take down style tips while mining crypto. Bonus clip? We’ve also included a behind-the-scenes segment at the end of the Vogue Verified video for your viewing pleasure.
In addition, we’ve introduced 21 of our previously-published articles into the VidyCoin ecosystem, with one or two videos embedded within the text of each story. To continue mining crypto, all you have to do is watch the videos embedded in the pink-highlighted text of those stories:
