One of Taiwan’s most popular digital content creators, Molly Chiang, armed with a penchant for all things bold and punchy, models the season’s trickiest trend—the long coat.
“I rarely limit myself to one style and if I do, I usually mix that up with something striking or add an element of fun to it,” quips Chiang, as she tries our three suggested combos.
Standing at 1.65m, she knows immediately what works for her body and frame by cleverly suggesting movement to an otherwise structured top. “In Taiwan, it seldom gets too cold, so we are able to layer and have a lot of fun pairing things without looking too clumsy. With fringe being the biggest trend this fall, it does inject a sense of joy to the entire ensemble,” she says.

Proportion is key when the item you are wearing takes up more than half the length of the body, so one important style tip is to show off some skin. Pushing up the sleeves to reveal more of your arms or, in Chiang’s case, baring the midriff to create that clever break in the outfit, definitely helps in balancing the total look.
Another way to go about wearing the long one-button coat is to stretch the legs optically ever so slightly by pairing it with structured ankle boots or stacked strappy sandals for a more laid-back look. And for that extra punch? Throw in a statement bag.
