The December/January issue of Vogue Singapore hits newsstands tomorrow. As we usher in the festive season, the holiday issue is themed ‘Spark’ as a celebration of all the things that we have to be grateful for this year—our resilience, our strengthened character born out of trials and tribulations, and our fortune to call Singapore home—as well as the power of fashion and beauty to spark joy.
On our cover this issue are models Malika Louback and He Cong, photographed by Nathaniel Goldberg and styled by Daniela Paudice in diaphanous Dior pieces that were similarly created with light, joy and celebration in mind. In what has been a historic and tumultuous year, the cover is an ode to the intangible chemistry and connection that has kept us afloat from Christmas to Christmas.
“It’s easy to feel powerless in the face of a pandemic that has affected everyone on every level. But no matter who you are or what your situation is, one can make a difference,” He Cong expresses. “Being a model is to inspire, to make people dream and to promote diversity at the same time,” Louback shares in our cover story by contributing writer Nicolette Wong.
Look out for an exclusive interview with K-Pop star Chaelin, better known as CL, with our deputy editor Amelia Chia. With her double hit singles ‘HWA’ and ‘5 Star’, get to know CL’s heartfelt comeback story on young ambition and inspiring our future generation—accompanied by intimate portraits of the global star shot in her grandmother’s home in Seoul.
Get into the holiday spirit with fashion director Desmond Lim’s bohemian party of five, as he pays homage to the joy of dressing up for yourself with the ones you love—captured by Singapore photographer Gan. And get up close with the transformative power of beauty and makeup in our face filter-inspired spread, as make-up artist Verity Cumming reimagines beauty with AR filters made analogue.
Don’t miss the work of local rising talents to watch: an editorial shot by Singapore photographer Li Wanjie, and artist Polina Korobova, who opens up about her feminist body of work, lensed by Shawn Paul Tan.
Continuing our Artist in Residence signature which invites an artist to create a bespoke artwork in response to our theme each issue, this issue features a short film by Singaporean filmmaker, Boo Junfeng, to commemorate International Migrants Day on 18 December. The making of the film is documented at the front of the book, with the final product showcased on the last page.
This holiday season, give the gift of optimism and gratitude—wrapped up in this special December/January issue with stories that move and celebrate.
