There is nothing quite like the glamour of zipping around the Venice lagoon on a motoscafo, decked out in a gown or a tux, and headed for a red carpet event. Such is the charm and the magic of the Venice International Film Festival, which has kicked off its 83rd edition in 2026.
The film festival, La Biennale di Venezia in Italian, is held at the Venice Lido and the historic Palazzo del Cinema. Its 2026 edition runs from 2 to 12 September, and with it comes a lineup of film premières, glamorous red carpets, and a star-studded roster of actors and celebrities from all around the world.
On the red carpet front, Venice has proven a highly fruitful source of high-glam jewellery moments. Last year brought a sweep of elegant, beautiful earrings, but the jury is still out on what this year’s leading red carpet jewel trends will be.
In the meantime, though, there is little question that Bvlgari’s sinuous Serpenti is a hot favourite. This year’s jury president Maggie Gyllenhaal wore a diamond and onyx necklace, off-centre on her neck just so, on the festival’s opening night. Rebecca Donaldson opted for the famous Serpenti too, wearing a matched necklace and bracelet.
Other standouts include Chase Sui who sported a Tiffany & Co. Bird on a rock brooch pinned to a ribbon creating a choker necklace and none other than Laura Dern who dazzled in Cartier feather jewels. With the festival continuing to 12th September, more red carpet looks and jewels are yet to be unravelled.
