The Cartier Love bracelet is such a grand classic that you might be forgiven for thinking it would stay the same throughout time. After introducing a range of size styles, more convenient hinged formats, and a milestone evolution in the form of the flexible Love Unlimited, the maison has now reimagined this icon with coloured gemstones—an elevated, vivacious look to a familiar form.
For 57 years, the Love bracelet has been one of the most famous pieces of jewellery to exist, recognisable at a simple glance. Now, Cartier is proving that their style is evolving with the times by leaning into the trend for coloured gemstones. First, the Clash de Cartier received a colourful update, and now it is the Love bracelet’s turn to get a dash of chromatic novelty.

The crux of the Love bracelet’s design came as a result of its designer Aldo Cipullo’s heartbreak and misery. He envisioned a piece of jewellery in its barest form as a reminder of aspirational, permanent love. The bracelet has an industrial appearance thanks to its screw closure, and symbolised at first rigid, unchanging love. Now, however, Cartier is imbuing modern iterations of the design to embody a more modern and newfound understanding of love: fluid, malleable and ever-changing in nature.

While there already exists diamond pavé or studded versions of the Love bracelet, the Parisian jeweller has now added a range of coloured gemstones to the design. These colourful novelties come in two forms. The first is more understated, with a multi-colour rainbow of gemstones set into the ten screws of the Love bracelet. The second is more bold: pavé lines of either blue sapphires, green tsavorites, or amethysts, and with ten diamonds set into the screws.
From fun and flirty to tender and intense, the range and variety of gemstones express the multi-faceted characters of love. Budding love in pink and yellow sapphires, orange spessartite garnets, green tsavorites and amethysts; or a calmer, more mature kind of love with aquamarines, tanzanites, pink and blue sapphires, and amethysts. It’s the combinations, just as it is with individuals, that create a complementary whole. With this contemporary take on the much-adored Love bracelet, Cartier has melded its heritage with novelty and self-expression. What’s not to love?
