Milan Fashion Week has begun, and it started off strong to say the least. Glenn Martens continues to push the boundaries at Diesel, with the fall/winter 2023 collection being a glimpse into individualism and sexual exploration. A mountain of 200,000 Durex condom boxes in the centre stage was all anyone could focus on, until chemically-processed denim, motor jackets and silk slip dresses sauntered across the runway. Over at Fendi, a subtler approach was taken; a nod to the clean and elegant modern-day woman. Slashed knits and pleated skirts offered a playful twist to a timeless silhouette, while long coats and blazers continued to showcase Kim Jones’s tailoring prowess.
Outside, show attendees appeared to match the energy. Denim seemed the choice of fabric this season, from raw-edged denim dresses to oversized jackets that featured statement cutouts on the back. The utilitarian trend does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon, as cargo pants and puffer jackets packed with 3D pockets proved a statement outfit for all occasions. Robust tailoring were aplenty as well, with structured blazers and timeless coats in a variety of neutral shades rounding up the outfits. On feet, heeled boots were the talk of the town, whilst black platforms and derbies graced the feet of others.
