The stylists and editors have left the office behind and set foot in Milan, bringing their office wardrobe codes with them. All that to say, some mild decorum was preserved even on the streets, with the Italian fashion capital becoming an office of sorts for those in attendance. Relaxed suiting undercut by meticulous tailoring on the shoulders; muscle tank silhouettes layered with purpose; and of course, the knee-length skirt à la Miuccia Prada. It was also a key focus of the designer’s opening show in Milan. Some in latex, some cinched with Velcro, and a few statement delights made of chainmail and glass crystals. Day 1 set the tone for the weeks to come, as the season continues into Paris. Maria Grazia Chiuri leaned more glam rock for Fendi, with sensual propositions that made lingerie feel central to the collection. Onitsuka Tiger is in the business of reinvention, packaging beauty with a sportier, grittier twist.
Out on the streets too, the pin skirt appears to be the season’s staple. It is, however, far from boring: arriving in plaid textures on silk fabrics; lace enmeshed with orange frill; glimmering sequins on an all-black number; bullet lipsticks repeated as a motif; and even vivacious pop art portraits planted squarely on the skirt as a canvas. Some have started prepping for the shifting climes in scarves and lightweight outerwear, but the in-between weather is perfect material for experimenting with interesting layers, be it corsetry over shirts, sheer slips over shirt dresses, or a cardigan thrown over another cardigan for good measure.
