The best Met Gala jewellery looks this year are all about pearls and diamonds

Honouring the legacy of Karl Lagerfeld, celebrities at the 2023 Met Gala took fashion inspiration from the late designer’s personal style, signature creations, and penchant for a monochromatic palette. Cue black-and-white outfits, leather gloves galore, camellias in full bloom, oodles of luscious pearls… Likewise, the best Met Gala jewellery looks were also a nod to Lagerfeld’s distinctive style.

Staying completely on-theme and mostly monochromatic this year, the best red carpet jewellery looks however were anything but one-note. Two of the evening’s biggest jewellery trends were pearls—lots of pearls—and ultra-bling colourless diamonds, with just the occasional smidge of coloured gemstones or sculptural yellow gold. It’s like the perfect Chanel mood board that’s done come to life.

Worn as long ropes, stacked in multiple layers, or piled extra high around the wrist, neck, or decolletage, pearl jewellery definitely stole the red carpet spotlight, seen on everyone from Rihanna and Kim Kardashian to Lizzo, Gigi Hadid, and the Beckhams. Meanwhile, classic white diamonds on white gold or platinum were a hot favourite among stars like Dua Lipa, Michelle Yeoh, Florence Pugh, Lily Collins, and more.

Additionally, statement earrings were also a big Met Gala jewellery trend this year, with Christina Ricci, Devon Aoki, and Michaela Coel sporting some of the best looks. Other top jewellery styles in the limelight were seen on Amanda Seyfried, Gabrielle Union, Quannah Chasinghorse, and Rita Ora.

But whether they were on Team Pearls or Team Diamonds, these celebrities definitely aced their Met Gala jewellery game, and served up top notch looks that the Kaiser himself would certainly approve.
