Dropping just ahead of Earth Day, the latest Moncler Genius collection by designer Craig Green is the perfect celebration of Man’s relationship with the outdoors. Moncler Genius boasts various collaborations with different designers such as JW Anderson, but Green’s project offers a fresh, nature-inspired take on the brand’s ethos.

The natural world’s inherent juxtapositions—between water and land, earthiness and lightness, and structure and freeform—come through in every aspect of Green’s menswear collection, beginning with the monogram. It features thick undulating lines arranged in a zoomorphic shape most suggestive of a frog or platypus. The monogram’s intentionally ambiguous form is contrasted against the clean symmetry and sculptural construction—a tribute to mother nature’s unique balance between order and chaos.

In the same vein, Green’s use of materials and colours reimagines the natural world’s textural and visual contrasts. Just as how the smoothness of petal differs from the roughness of bark, myriad quilting patterns as well as a mix of matte and shiny nylons are melded on cropped blousons, long parkas and shirt jackets. Meanwhile, the collection’s colour palette is reminiscent of a flower field: a base of muddy tones brightened up with pops of red, yellow, orange, tangerine, and electric blue.

In crafting the collection, Green focused not on nature as an isolated entity, but how people interact with the outdoors. Everything is created with wearability as the cornerstone. With no fussy details that might encumber movement, the utilitarian designs enable the wearer to interact freely with their physical environment. Zip-up windbreakers and jackets made of lightweight nylons are perfect for Singapore’s tropical climate. Sturdy cotton jackets paired with casual chinos ensure maximum comfort on a full day out—just in time to take advantage of the lifting of pandemic restrictions. Sneakers, monogrammed bags and wallets round off the collection.
The 5 Moncler Craig Green Collection is currently available in flagship stores across the globe including Singapore and online.
