Moncler has launched its second collection with JW Anderson. For spring/summer 2021, Jonathan Anderson looked to the concept of travel and nomadic voyage, not short of Moncler’s signature quilting and puffer outerwear. Since joining the Moncler Genius roster in February 2020, he has embraced the experimental spirit of the brand.
Last season was all about portable, tactile experiences for Anderson—his previous Moncler Genius instalment was an ‘Exhibition in a Box’, in step with his ventures at his resident label, Loewe (remember ‘Show in a Box’?). At Moncler this season, he has taken to a cross-platform cultural programme: the collection launches alongside the first Moncler Genius Podcast series on Spotify, and a partnership with film streaming service, Mubi.
Anderson has never been one to shy away from intellectualising fashion—and it shows. The podcast will be hosted by acclaimed curator and director of the Serpentine Galleries, Hans Ulrich Obrist, as Anderson sits in conversation to discuss the influence of travel on his creative process. And the curated film selection? Expect a series of arthouse short films to longer-form cinema such as Agnès Varda’s Vagabond (1985) and Wim Wender’s Paris, Texas (1984), documenting voyage in all its forms, whether imagined or experienced.
The 1 Moncler JW Anderson collection is available in Moncler boutiques and on moncler.com from 1 March. For more information on Mubi (and a free 30-day trial), head to mubi.com/monclergenius.
