This March, Vogue Singapore presents our inaugural podcast series, Vogue Uncut, in celebration of International Women’s Day. Hosted by the editors of Vogue Singapore, each episode discusses critical topics and issues that women in Singapore face—from the challenges of egg freezing to the balancing act of motherhood and career—of unfiltered and candid conversations with guests that include renowned healers, creatives, entrepreneurs and innovators.
It starts with an innocent question. But before you know it, an expectation had already been seeded. Then comes, the impending judgement. The year is 2024, yet women have still been made to feel like marriage and having children are par for their course. Often, we’re singled out according to our age, existing health conditions and even our lifestyle habits. We’re called to fulfill or check off an invisible box on a checklist that’s might or might not be ours.
In the first episode of Vogue Singapore’s inaugural podcast series: Vogue Uncut, we’re joined by actress and host Munah Bagharib and radio host Yasminne Cheng. The former, 35, holds no plans to get married or have kids while the latter, 45, is in a loving marriage that is childfree.
Individually, both women are living different journeys, yet unite on the conviction that there’s more to a woman’s identity than just the statuses that society binds us to. A life that we choose to build for ourselves should be our end-all and be-all. To preface, this is not an episode to advocate for singlehood or being kid-free. Rather, it’s about the nagging underlying sentiment that women should be hitting a certain “life milestone” by a certain age. Together, we examine where we’re each at with our choices and what it means to be content and complete as a modern-day woman.
