Sometimes they say more is more and bigger means better. Sometimes that can ring true. One key accessory that’s going absolutely big this time around? Sunglasses.
We all deserve to greet the sun in shades that are cool and collected—who could disagree? Like many other Fashion Weeks, eyewear was peppered abundantly during the recent spring/summer fashion shows. While past seasons gave way to teeny tiny frames and narrow cat-eye styles, this season we’re finally seeing new eyewear styles in the form of conspicuous, statement-making creations that prove to be larger than life. Some even extending to wraparound our eyebrows (we see you, Balenciaga).
The spring/summer 2025 shows suggest we can finally put those understated days behind us. Luar certainly did when their models emerged wearing gigantic shield shades. The ski goggle-sized sunglasses were impossible to miss, punctuating the brand’s distinctively-cool looks with their dramatic size. Geometric shades were fiercely popular at Prada, where bug-eyed frames and oversized visors stole the show. At Saint Laurent, thick-rimmed frames—in reference to the ones favoured by the late, bespectacled Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent himself—felt more muted yet equally striking all the same. Marni also put its money where its eyes were, as they debuted hyper-exaggerated takes on classic aviators and cat-eyes. Similar supersized scenes unfolded at Loewe, Miu Miu, Dior, and, expectedly, Balenciaga.
