Leave it to Gucci’s Alessandro Michele to come up with covetable pieces collaboration after collaboration. North Face x Gucci was an ode to the spirit of adventure and exploration. Afterwards, it was the hotly anticipated ‘Gucci-aga’ alliance between Gucci and Balenciaga for Gucci’s 100th anniversary show.
This time, the visionary creative director turned to Germany’s most famous sports brand, Adidas, for a buzzworthy collaboration that was inspired by the phantasmagorical power of mirrors. Michele looked at the fabric of clothes as optical labs that could inspire enchantment and metamorphosis. Impressively, this led to ‘Exquisite Gucci’, the autumn/winter 2022 collection that expertly intertwined the codes of Adidas and Gucci.
When comparing the two, one might not notice a blatant connection. Adidas has its fingers on the authenticity and vigour of hip hop, street culture and sports. Gucci, contrastingly, sees the world through a vaseline-smudged lens of nostalgia; dreamy, eclectic and slightly idiosyncratic. But for lovers of both houses, it is time to rejoice in the unpredictable and unique optics of it all. Enter Adidas x Gucci: a full product selection for men and women—from leather goods and ready-to-wear, to bags and accessories.
Well-suited for Singapore’s tropical climate, the new drop is a seamless amalgamation of comfortable, cool pieces injected with refined appeal. Fashion enthusiasts can expect classic, athleisure silhouettes commonly associated with Adidas, as well as unconventional colourplay and patterns quintessential to Gucci. Think: colour blocking and playful windbreakers, a sporty tank top rich with logomania and flared running shorts that are banded with Gucci’s definitive red and white logo stripe.
It is a full collection this time round from ready-to-wear to accessories. And yet, the plot thickens: not a single Adidas Originals sneaker in sight (at least for now). Instead, mustard heels emblazoned with the Gucci logo stands out from the largely sporty collection; something truly unexpected from the alliance.
