JW Anderson unveils Run Hany collection
Joining a slew of other high fashion collaborations with anime—see Loewe x Studio Ghibli or Gucci x Doraemon—is none other than JW Anderson’s latest work with the artist of cult South Korean anime Run Hany. The collection is splashed with a retro mood of vivid colours and the recognisable characters of the popular adaptation of the coming-of-age manhwa that ran from 1985 to 1988: where Hani, a 13 year-old girl who suffers against all odds to overcome her tragic family past, joins the school sprint team. From an eclectic range of sheer, long-sleeved underpinnings and full track suits to delightful bucket hats and a series of chain baguette bags, the limited-edition series sees a range of ready-to-wear options and accessories emblazoned with Jonathan Anderson’s leanings towards the bold and graphic.

Moncler launches Moncler Maya 70 Collaborations for their 70th anniversary
As Moncler celebrates their 70th anniversary this year, the launch of the Moncler Maya 70 Collaborations puts the spotlight on their iconic Maya jacket. Working hand in hand with seven different designers, the fashion house will see seven new reinterpretations of the recognisable jacket—each one with their own twist to it. The first collaborative design to be expected? The Moncler Maya 70 by Palm Angels. Choosing to fashion a luminous piece that features the Palm Angels logo across the back, the jacket has been coated with light-emitting optical fibres that lends it an unexpectedly functional quality. “I never stop to think about the future. It’s so fascinating to imagine it and in a way, anticipate what’s next. This is the mindset behind this project: it’s more than a down jacket,” muses Palm Angels’s creative director Francesco Ragazzi himself.

Veja and Marni have another go at their DIY-inspired collaboration
Earlier this year in March, Marni’s Francesco Risso joined hands with eco-conscious French brand Veja to release two pairs of sneakers—plastered all over by bold scribbles using markers. The high-chromatic style is signature to the Italian label and brought about a fresh twist to the otherwise more minimal V-10 and V-15 silhouettes of the shoe brand. The dynamic duo have since decided to work on a second release of their DIY-inspired collection; just recently, they presented three additional designs as part of their fall/winter 2022 collection. Whilst a pair of V-10s have received the similar expressive treatment of vivacious hues—namely in violet, ultramarine and water green—an additional two pairs, including one high-top V-15 option, makes the case for a black-and-white moment instead.

Cecile Bahnsen launches a collaboration with ASICS
Footwear giant ASICS saw their sneakers given the Cecile Bahnsen treatment—by way of flower cluster embellishments, daintily adorning the brand’s Gel-1130 and Gel-1190 shoes. The shoes served their time on the Danish designer’s runway at Paris Fashion Week last month as well; teaming up with the faerie-breezy frocks seen on the models. Through this collaboration, an eco-tangent is similarly infused—in line with ASICS’s attempt to move towards the use of more recycled materials as well—considering the floral appliqués were crafted out of deadstock fabric and leftover beads from the designer’s atelier.

Local label ESH by Esther shows at ASEAN-Korea Fashion Week
Since 2019, Esther Choy, the Singaporean designer behind local label ESH by Esther has been part of the line-up for the ASEAN-Korea Fashion Week. For this year’s run, the brand represented Singapore as one of ten designers showing physically at the Bexco Auditorium in Busan. Positing itself as a gender-fluid label that marries androgynous details with feminine allure, this collection shows the designer’s signature needle unfold in unexpected colour blocking moments and woven knits that bring soft appeal to her mode of tailoring. In addition to her runway show, Choy was also invited to the ASEAN-Korea Fashion Industry Development Forum panel, where she shared her personal experiences and perspectives on the world of garment making in the region.
