10-word show review: A Parisian collection reflecting multiple facets of the feminine spirit
Designer: Virginie Viard
Location: Grand Palais Éphémère
The vision: Today, the Chanel woman was shown at her most visceral. This spring/summer 2024 season, multifacetedness came to be the trait that defined her and it was through the feminine gaze of creative director Virginie Viard that such a feat was achieved with great mastery.
The vibe: When you enter the Grand Palais Éphémère for Chanel’s spring/summer 2024 show, you are first greeted by the sheer scale of the space. Larger-than-life screens encompass the four walls and the ceiling. Displayed on it are views of the historical Villa Noailles, obscured by a multitude of different flowers, luring you into high fashion’s Garden of Eden. The flowers overshadow architecture in the images presented– seemingly alluding to placing the Chanel woman at the collection’s very core.
Signature silhouettes: Leather thongs and sheer garments showed a certain sensuality while candy stripes reflected a whimsical side of the maison. Short coats attached with hoods offered an undisputed style that came with function. An air of effortlessness was felt when a casual T-shirt was paired with denim and a slip dress fell atop a striped leather skirt. Then there was a certain innocence embodied through babydoll dresses—a personal standout in the collection. At the core of the collection was wearability and it was that very quality of ease that made this showing a quintessentially Parisian one.
