Just like that, the spring/summer 2024 season has come to an end. This season was nothing short of exciting and emotional, starting with Peter Do’s anticipated debut collection at Helmut Lang followed by Ralph Lauren’s long-awaited return to the New York fashion week calendar after four years. In Milan, designer Sabato De Sarno—the newly-appointed creative director of Gucci—also showed a fresh vision for the historied house, leaving many to ponder about what is to come. There were bittersweet goodbyes as well, from Prada’s design director Fabio Zambernardi leaving the iconic Milanese house after two decades to Sarah Burton’s farewell collection for Alexander McQueen. Despite the arrivals and departures, each collection continued to shine bright, further cementing these cities at the top of the fashion pyramid.
On the accessories front, there was a great variety of footwear exhibited, from an array of eclectic styles to bold colours and unique fabrication. Miu Miu, Tory Burch and Hermès all presented strappy sandals fit for resort life, while Chanel took it a step further with embellished flip flops. Bottega Veneta and JW Anderson showcased woven designs in calfskin leather and crochet knit respectively. For those opting for boots, straps in the form of casts seem to be the unspoken theme. Dior showcased a traditional combat version with a distressed finish that created a lived-in look, and Rick Owens reimagined its iconic platform boots in bright scarlet.
As always, elegant heels and pumps were aplenty, starting with Louis Vuitton’s offerings that play on colour-blocking. Prada offered a classic silhouette that would pair well with almost everything. Lastly, Givenchy adopted the stockings over heels design for the fashion lovers looking to make a statement.
