The vision: Nicolas Ghesquière’s spring/summer 2024 collection for Louis Vuitton encapsulated the essence of a summer wardrobe done right. A-listers like Zendaya, Hyein and Cate Blanchett graced their presence for the show, forming a prolific guestlist, as with the house‘s previous seasons. A sense of wonder filled the air as the set was unveiled to all who entered the location.

The vibe: Located at the historical Champs-Elysées, the collection’s showing was set in a location that’s in line with the maison’s enamourment with travel—built in the 19th century, the building was meant to house international visitors who came to the world fair. An all-orange interior exuded youth and quite aptly as well; the collection felt like a retrospection of Ghesquière’s greatest hits.

Signature silhouettes: Within many of the looks, veneer and sheerness clashed in a beautiful ensemble of tension. Light and breezy pieces were juxtaposed with heavy use of leather and PVC, while ostentatious statement belts were back in a big way. Historical references were aplenty; as the designer’s endearment for the 19th century and the Teddy Boys of the ‘50s shone through in details and finishings of the outerwear displayed as well as through corset tops with billowing sleeves. Then there were the bags. Clutches came in the shape and form of polaroid cameras, forming a summer fever dream of sorts. An oddity in presentation: a top handle tote that’s deliberately left open. Perhaps this was the strongest cue to what the Louis Vuitton woman was—someone who possesses sprezzatura and is equal parts effortless and elegant.
