Red carpet enthusiasts are bound to be in high spirits this season. Following the undeniable high of the Met Gala earlier this month, comes the buzzy arrival of the 76th Cannes Film Festival. With 21 highly-awaited films on its roster—of which many are bound to be Oscar runners come award season—it’s inevitable that the French Riviera will see an astronomical multitude of A-listers arrive in its city as well. One only needs to glean the films on its roster, to recognise the gravitas of the starry celebrity set that we might anticipate a red carpet appearance from. At last year’s run of the festival, many unexpected arrivals were spotted—think the newly-coined Prince and Princess of Wales who stepped out for the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick.
Amidst this year’s schedule of films that will premiere at Cannes, sits Wes Anderson’s star-studded Asteroid City. From the trailer alone, many know to expect the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Hong Chau to make their appearances on the carpet alongside screen favourites Tilda Swinton and Tom Hanks. Whilst Killers of the Flower Moon—Martin Scorsese’s adaptation of David Grann’s highly-lauded novel—will also welcome Robert De Niro, Leonardo Di Caprio and 2023 Oscar winner Brendan Fraser to the French city. Not to be missed is also the premiere of The New Boy, which stars Cannes darling Cate Blanchett as its leading lady.
With the opening night of the film festival done and dusted, a trove of celebrities have already graced the red carpet. Elle Fanning, for one, swooped in wearing a glorious custom-made Alexander McQueen gown. Meanwhile, Brie Larson, who sits on this year’s jury for the festival, was seen in a gilded Chanel offering. Whilst the likes of supermodels Alessandra Ambrosio and Naomi Campbell waltzed onto the carpet in glittering dresses, courtesy of Elie Saab and Céline respectively.
