Show: Chanel fall/winter 2025
Designer: Chanel creation studio
Location: Grand Palais
The vibe: As we eagerly await Matthieu Blazy’s long-anticipated debut for the spring/summer season, Chanel’s creation studio has unveiled a dreamlike collection that beautifully underscores the emblematic elements of Coco Chanel’s legacy. Hosted at the magnificent Grand Palais, with a pink-washed set designed by scenographer Willo Perron, Chanel’s iconic symbols were sent down the runway in playful–almost whimsical–ways. “Never far from the universe of fairytales, the fall/winter 2025 ready-to-wear collection conjures up a world of mastery and imagination, all while rendering the House codes sublime,” shares the maison. This sense of fantasy naturally extended to the guests in attendance, with iconic bags–the 2.55 in various forms, the Boy bag in an array of styles, and the perfume bottle bag–adding to the excitement of the occasion: hopeful, yet always mindful of the past.
The vision: Even amidst the buzz of a new creative director, there are some things that feel comfortingly unapologetic about Chanel. For one, the front row was filled with faces that the maison has long championed for a certain inimitable je ne sais quoi, from Park Seo-Joon to Dakota Fanning. Hanging from the picturesque ceiling was a life-sized ribbon that set the tone for the rest of the collection: the bow, the ribbon, the pearl and the flower, in its many amalgamations.
What to shop from the collection: There’s certainly a particular design language that comes from the maison’s creation studio, now that we have seen a few collections from them. This, for me, was encapsulated in the first two looks–a daringly youthful rendition on the tweed jacket paired with sheaths of tulle. This collection in particular, however, was all about the accessories. Oversized pearl bags slung around body (which I loved!) and draping black bows (which found themselves on the show invites, too) added a touch of girlish whimsy that infiltrated wardrobes last season–but this time with a hint of womanliness. And then came the shoes—block heeled sneakers with frilly tops, boots with pearl knobs and bow-accented lace ups proved to be some of the most fun and eye-catching parts. One thing is for sure, it’s great to see the girls have fun.
