Footwear, this season, stepped into the odd, zany and fabulous: stretching stupendously long at Jil Sander and Tod’s; bending into an asymmetric office pump at Prada (whose love for the square-toe was matched at Marni and Chanel); bordering on the trypophobic at Prada and Loewe; and transmuting from sneaker into a knee-high boot at Onitsuka Tiger, whose iconic Mexico 66 stripes were transformed anew, and was perhaps the Japanese apparel’s strongest showcase yet.
Broader trends of the summer found their way to the runway, too. The ballet pump unfolded into a ballet wedge at Maison Margiela; while the heeled thong endures as the summer’s it-shoe, finding itself in fluffy formation at Sportmax, and transparent, feet-on-the-ground moment at Balenciaga.
More is more is more—this, too, applied to footwear. Bottega Veneta applied the croc-effect to the classic leather loafer; Acne Studio indulged in a 19th-century fantasy; and Dolce & Gabbana leaned into the glimmering and ostentatious in their floral embroidery (Chanel, too, concocted similar creation: embroidering their heels with custom golden Chanel buttons).
Ahead, a Vogue-curated spread of our favourite shoes as seen on the spring/summer 2027 runways.
