The latest slew of fall/winter 2022 shows certainly made a poignant comeback—not just for the season itself, but for fashion’s official return to normalcy. From Louis Vuitton to Balenciaga, this season saw daring transitions with regard to cut and colour. Certain brands were toying with all-new palettes and silhouettes, while others chose to reinterpret classic signature pieces as evidenced at Eckhaus Latta.
Perhaps it has to do with the partial return of physical shows, or the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has altered creative processes within the fashion realm; either way, there’s no denying the ramped-up nature of this season’s shows. It was a sentiment that translated to the accessories too, where shoes and bags weren’t spared from the high-octane treatment. We have since chronicled the most standout bags spotted on the runway; so it’s only natural that we now take stock of the footwear from the season.
All manner of clogs, sandals and heels were spotted, bursting with dramatic flair as conveyed via plexi-glass elements and elaborate utilitarian hardware. There was a penchant for complex straps and detailing, too, as demonstrated by the house of Dior and Christian Siriano. Chunky boots à la Chloé certainly made a lasting impression. Beyond that, fashion houses also opted to make their footwear from intriguing materials, where shoes from the fall/winter 2022 shows harboured laces made from elasticated cords and safety-pin detailing that drew the eye.
Below, Vogue Singapore spotlights the most striking shoes from the fall/winter 2022 shows.
