At the Met Gala 2022, all that glitters is gilded. In celebration of this year’s theme, In America: An Anthology of Fashion (the second of the two-part Costume Institute exhibition) attendees once again turned out their best, this time riffing on a gilded glamour dress code. Naturally, the grandeur extended above the neck with beauty that ran the gamut from timelessly beautiful to radically transformative.

In the spirit of the former, Sophie Turner arrived with dramatically deep crimson waves that fell past her growing baby bump, while Kaia Gerber sported a voluminous cascade of waist-skimming spirals like Lady Godiva. Dreamy decadence was another theme that informed beauty strategies as co-host Blake Lively wore a dazzling jewelled crown above her cascade of rippled blonde waves and Alicia Keys accented her swooped edges with crystals and an embellished serpentine braid trailing in the back. On the nails front, scene-stealing manicures ruled with Janelle Monáe sporting a bedazzled striped design that mirrored the detail on her custom Ralph Lauren gown and Cynthia Erivo donning long, jet-black talons bedecked with ornamental golden gems.
