What if the quality of your sleep and performance at work could be enhanced by time in a hyperbaric oxygen pod? Or if stress management now means exposing your body to sub-zero temperatures to improve vagal tone? Gone are the days when wellbeing was merely about a 60-minute massage and a cup of hot ginger tea before being booted back out to the real world. We live in a society driven by optimisation and that doesn’t stop when it comes to the self. Enter: the evolution of wellness spaces in Singapore.
In the 2010s, Oprah encouraged us to “live our best lives”, but in this age of AI, we’re attempting to do all that and with data—hacking our way to better sleep, exercise, stress management and longevity. Given all that we’re learning about biohacking, Singapore’s latest crop of exclusive wellness clubs and spas answer the desire to revitalise the self using quantifiable, science-backed techniques. Now, it’s about marrying movement with recovery, hands-on ancestral healing with health-tech, and contrasting therapies for longevity. For this, we look to Singapore’s leading mind-body spots: havens where the self is treated holistically.
Gyms and spas are in abundance, but selecting a setting to actively heal, develop resilience and rejuvenate takes due diligence. However, as these buzzy local wellness destinations prove, recovery mode can indeed be achieved. From wellness workshops to heat therapy and from magnesium baths to personalised physiotherapy, these spaces hone in on maximising well-being.

Shelter
In its name, Shelter is a respite. With its centralised location in the heart of Singapore, it certainly makes for a safe haven to escape to when you need a breather or two. Past its doors, this recovery sanctuary evokes a sense of calm, perhaps induced by the Aesop fragrances it is enveloped in. Your full body-mind reset begins here.
An intimate space furnished with a heated salt bath, a state-of-the-art dry sauna as well as three different ice baths of three differing temperature ranges, you could plan a full hour’s worth (or more) of recovery time in here. Engage in contrast therapy sessions with ease as you flit between the heated magnesium pool and the 3℃ ice bath, all to stimulate circulation, release tension and even improve cortisol levels. Weary souls can opt to carve out the better part of the hour for a good soak in the salt bath, perfect for muscle tension release and lulling one into a relaxed state. For those looking to work up a sweat and detoxify, brace yourself for the 90℃ sauna, or target your aching muscles with Shelter’s compression therapy. But when all that is said and done? It’s the details that matter, like the luxury of Dyson hair tools and bathroom amenities from Aesop to reach for, so you can refresh yourself proper, just before you head out into the world again.

Rekoop
For a space that’s all about state-of-the-art, quantum wellness, there’s something monastic and tranquil about Rekoop. Located in Singapore’s CBD, the luxury biohacker’s retreat envelops members in a sense of zen. It’s just the thing for those who pop in at lunch for an infrared sauna or session in the oxygen therapy chamber, MacBooks in tow.
C-suite execs and busy urbanites are drawn here by a range of motivations, from optimising performance through wellness and accelerating recovery to restoring balance and enhancing overall well-being. The annual membership of $6,000 centres around customised protocols incorporating cryotherapy, breathwork and advanced ice baths—all proven to improve cognitive function, support ageing, boost immune function and reduce inflammation.
We spent our time at Rekoop taking a restorative nap in a lymphatic drainage suit, geared at removing water retention, boosting circulation and promoting detoxification. The spacesuit-esque treatment uses air pressure to gently knead the body from the toes to the torso, while NuCalm, a neuroacoustic sound therapy, enhanced the treatment. The add-on modality is just one of several that aim to optimise performance and sleep, without drugs or side effects. But it’s not just about the tech: resident masters from the fields of reiki, osteopathy, physiotherapy and naturopathy complete the holistic picture in this well-appointed space.

Hideaway
Grant Wee, founder of Hideaway and Trapeze Rec Club, certainly knows a thing or two about building wellness-centric communities. Located at New Bahru, this sanctuary to healing reimagines wellness in the form of a modern bathhouse with functional biohacking and spa elements. For the ultimate wellness experience, guests can pop in for a contrast therapy session, combining infrared sauna and cold plunging before melting onto Hideaway’s plush beds for a restorative massage.
The signature Hideaway treatment, $180 for 90 minutes, is unlike anything on the market today—opening with a dance of cold crystal wands across the face on strategic acupressure points. Cold jade also makes an appearance during the ultra-reviving head and scalp massage, while a hot compress infused with Thai herbs is stamped over the body—boosting circulation, reducing inflammation and activating detoxification.
Conceived by industry leader Farida Brouwer, the hot and cold therapeutic massage blends ancient remedies with modern recovery. In place of classic (read: predictable) choreographed massage moves, Hideaway therapists enter their flow state, intuitively moving to address your needs in real time. Their hands-on knowledge and awareness for holistic healing coupled with the 100 percent pure oils and rose quartz-infused mists are the answer to elevate your overall mood and energy levels.

Como Shambhala
Holistic wellness holds prime focus at Como Shambhala. With numerous locations worldwide, its Singapore flagship makes a full reset of the body and mind accessible. At Como Shambhala, your body is a temple. With its longstanding approach to holistic wellness, the contemporary space expertly toes the line between rest and recovery, peace and performance.
Beyond extensive fitness offerings across Pilates, yoga and personal training, equal emphasis is afforded to recovery and well-being. Consultants provide advice on subjects such as personal nutrition and improving the gut microbiome, while scientifically powered wellness therapies—like hyperbaric oxygen therapy and contrast therapy—enhance overall well-being. A suite of health technologies, including Dr Anywhere’s medical screens and imaging suites, supports benefits ranging from better sleep and cognitive function to improved energy and stamina.
Also on hand to address bespoke needs is in-house physiotherapy, supporting clients’ posture, movement and regeneration with personalised, data-supported programmes. Through a partnership with Strength Clinic Academy, Como Shambhala offers physiotherapy sessions aligned with the centre’s extensive services. The initial consultation is key: in-house physiotherapists—keenly attuned to the way your body moves—conduct a preliminary assessment, factoring in any pre-existing medical history to determine the ideal exercise or programme moving forward. This might involve fine-tuning a fitness regimen, prescribing targeted exercises in the gym, modifying certain Pilates movements, incorporating muscle release work or administering dedicated body massages.
For the ultimate form of personal recovery and disciplined practice, Como Shambhala’s well-appointed contrast therapy rooms can be booked for private access to both a cold therapy ice bath and an infrared cedarwood sauna. The latter is made even more convenient with various timed presets, tailored to preferred outcomes such as detoxification, weight loss, pain relief and cellular rejuvenation.

Soma Haus
“Healing is not a solo journey—it thrives in connection.” Such are the words behind local wellness space Soma Haus, which aims to educate and empower visitors to take control of their healing and well-being journeys.
“Rather than take a one-size-fits-all approach, we guide our clients in understanding their own bodies, nervous system, stress responses and unique needs in their healing journey,” shares co-founder and educator Kathy Gabriel. Redefining the self-care experience with therapeutic interventions and utilising the guidance of industry professionals, it’s all about connecting with the body and emotions here.
Soma Haus offers a suite of noninvasive technologies, from ice baths and hyperbaric oxygen therapy to lymphatic drainage compression. And beyond its therapies, the space specialises in group workshops on well-being, promoting a community that’s passionate about health. Alleviating stress, calming the nervous system and easing into deep and restorative sleep are just some of the classes on offer.
“Essentially, we shift wellness from a reactive state (problem-solving) to an intentional, preventative art—one where individuals truly know the wisdom of their body and work with the beauty and complexity of their systems with compassion and efficiency,” Gabriel beams.
