The joy of streaming comes from knowing that there is a never-ending selection of what to watch. From the small-screen debut of fan-favourite superheroes to the return of a two-time Emmy Award-winning comedy series, this month’s lineup runs the gamut across film and television.
Sci-fi fans can bask in the delight of mind-bending stories. Apple TV’s second season of Dark Matter, starring Joel Edgerton, picks back up in a peaceful new world in the middle of all the multiverse chaos. Meanwhile, superhero fans will be thrilled to finally see Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre take up the mantle of Hal Jordan and John Stewart, respectively, in HBO Max’s Lanterns—making up a core pillar of James Gunn’s new DC universe. If you’re not quite willing to commit to a series, Netflix’s The Last House is jam-packed with nearly two hours of thrills and suspense as a family of four find themselves trapped inside their house by an ominous force with no way out.
Those seeking something light-hearted can opt for My Bias, My Boss. Kim Hye-Jun plays a new employee who fulfils every fangirl’s dream by getting to work alongside her favourite idol. August also presents an opportunity to reunite with our favourite characters once more. Jason Sudeikis is back for the final time as Kansas football coach Ted Lasso on Apple TV. Prepare your tissues for what will certainly be a tearful goodbye.

Lanterns
In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Long-time fans of DC Comics will soon be able to hear their favourite intergalactic cops recite this iconic oath on screen, with the release of Lanterns. The action-packed detective story follows ‘Lantern’ veteran Hal Jordan as he trains rookie John Stewart, played by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre respectively. While investigating a murder in the American heartland together, an unprecedented threat emerges: aliens that can take the form of any species have arrived on Earth.

Ted Lasso Season 4
Your favourite football coach from Kansas is back and better than ever. After spending some much-needed time with his son across the pond, Ted Lasso returns to the UK once more. This time—to take on the challenge of coaching AFC Richmond’s newly formed second-division women’s soccer team, the Lady Greyhounds. In true Lasso fashion, hijinks ensue when he and the team learn to leap before they look. It’s going to be a feel-good, heartfelt final season, reuniting us with familiar faces along the way, as we prepare to bid farewell to team Lasso.

The Shards
If it’s camp and dark humour you want, look no further than a Ryan Murphy show. Joining his twisty series repertoire—which includes beloved titles like American Horror Story—is new seductive drama, The Shards. Based on the bestselling novel of the same name, the show follows a group of high school seniors at an elite prep school in 1980s Los Angeles. As the main character, Bret, and his glamorous social circle navigate American adolescence, wealth, parties and excess abound. But their privileged world soon unravels with the arrival of new student Robert Mallory—whose appearance coincides with a serial killer targeting teenagers.

Helmed by Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, The Last House is a science fiction thriller film that follows a family of four as they find themselves mysteriously sealed inside their home. There is no way out—the rest of the world is trapped inside their homes too. As days turn into three years, the family must work together to survive diminishing resources and the sinister force keeping them trapped.

My Bias, My Boss takes the workplace meet-cute to a whole other level. Dark Matter Season 2
What would you do if you found yourself trapped in a parallel universe? For physicist Jason Dessen, the answer is simple: fight as hard as he can to return to his wife and son in his original reality. Picking up after the family reunites at the end of the first season, Season 2 follows them seemingly settling down in a new universe.
