Vogue Singapore presents our inaugural podcast series, Vogue Uncut, in celebration of International Women’s Day. Hosted by the editors of Vogue Singapore, each episode discusses critical topics and issues that women in Singapore face—from the challenges of egg freezing to the realities working mothers face and the intricacies of race, gender and intersectionality—presenting unfiltered and candid conversations with guests that include renowned healers, creatives, entrepreneurs and innovators.
When maternity leave comes to an end, real life begins. This rings true for working mothers, as they come to terms with returning to work and expecting to resume their duties the same way they did when they left four months ago. Except it’s (surprise, surprise) not the same anymore, because there is now the juggle of another human, the round-the-clock feeds, the endless schedules and lists, which all constitutes the mental load that comes with being a parent.
The speakers on our final Vogue Uncut podcast for the season are mothers who are no strangers to this phenomenon. Joining host and Vogue Singapore’s deputy editor Amelia Chia are executive director of Common Ground and former Nominated Member of Parliament, Kuik Shiao-yin, and managing director and CEO (Singapore) of Resaro, April Chin. Kuik is a mother to Eden, aged nine, while Chin has two children, Noah and Sophie, aged 11 and nine respectively. Together, these women have decades of work experience between them—yet coming to a place of balance and fulfilment hasn’t always been a walk in the park.
Listen in as we unpack what a life that brings life looks like, and what it means to own your own choices. Whether you are a mother, or a caregiver, or are someone with a lot on your plate, our hope is that this episode is the springboard you need to cultivate practices in your workplace that resonate with both your personal and professional being.
