Having been at the house of Balenciaga for eight years now, creative director Demna has certainly pushed boundaries and ushered in a new legion of devoted fans. Ironic branding, unorthodox campaign imagery and viral products have certainly catapulted the brand back to the top of the fashion food chain—and rightfully so.
For the cruise 2024 collection, Demna steered the narrative back to Paris, with the lookbook being shot in salon rooms overlooking Place Vendome and the Arc de Triomphe. Several of his design signatures returned, from oversized suiting to puffed-up trench coats. There was a focus on layering as well, in the form of hoodies and ‘towel’ wrap skirts that were fitted over traditional pleated trousers. Interspersed were also pieces from the high-luxe ‘Garde-Robe’ collection, which are an annual release, such as the silver-fringed embroidered dress seen towards the end.
On the accessories front, new additions came in the form of bug-eyed lenses named Dynamo round sunglasses, as well as the Romeo mules which were a pair of hyper-elongated square-toed flats. The Rodeo boot bag was also introduced, a tote that resembles a pair of supersized leather boots when carried on hand. Several coveted bags returned from previous seasons, such as the Monaco in improved hardware and the 24/7 bags tricked out rhinestones.
