Anthony Vaccarello’s seven-year tenure at Saint Laurent has been consistently filled with desirable arrays of shoes, bags and ready-to-wear alike. Deviating from the glam rock leanings of his predecessor, the creative director’s vision of a Saint Laurent woman is tied to two essential traits: allure and elegance.
The energy of that same woman was felt through the evocative pieces in the house’s fall/winter 2023 collection. An extensive range of garments shows the Saint Laurent woman in a multitude of settings and occasions alike. From partywear to power dressing to even androgyny, Vaccarello masterfully treads the line between diverse archetypes. The usual melangé of leather and satin upped the ante in texture.
A uniform palette of mainly black, brown and white was commonplace throughout the entire lineup. Blazers and leather jackets that were minimalistic in prints but bold in structure with their oversized shoulders took centre stage. An abundance of sheer tank tops emanated a casual note of sensuality and magnificent gloved gowns, haltered blouses and sheer blouses with large bows followed suit, closing the runway with opulence. The iconic skirt suit was also reduxed—showing Vaccarello’s homage to the house’s legendary founder.
As for the accessories, an array of statement earrings popped amidst the sea of monochromatic looks. Large chunky bangles felt like an ode to the ’80s and aviator shades added a cool edge to the collection. For the shoes, a standout was the patent slingback Lee heels that added texture to many of the looks with their veneer-like quality.
