It’s the final leg of the spring/summer 2023 season and enthusiasm for fashion month is far from waning. Dior and Saint Laurent recently kicked off Paris Fashion Week on a high note and we’re anticipating plenty of spectacular surprises down the line. Thus far, Olivier Rousteing’s latest collection for Balmain saw Cher closing the show while Courrèges staged a circular runway featuring a falling column of sand. Celebrations are also in order this time round: Dries Van Noten makes a physical return with his first womenswear runway in years while Acne Studios marks its 10th anniversary of showing in Paris.
As 107 designers present new collections over the week, expect historic names in fashion like Schiaparelli, Chanel, and Balenciaga to pull out all the stops. Better yet, a contingent of coveted Japanese labels such as Comme des Garçons, Junya Watanabe and Yohji Yamamato are new additions to the city’s fashion week schedule alongside emerging designers Ludovic de Saint Sernin and Ottolinger.
Meanwhile outside the shows, the rainy weather forecast in Paris is not holding back the crowds from wearing their best ensembles. Showgoers brought a splash of colour that brightened up the mood, with several opting for funky hats and statement outerwear pieces that doubled as umbrellas. Think oversized tartan blazers, and even feathered capes in floral print. Also reigning supreme are patterned ties, ruffle detailing and oversized sunglasses. One styling trend of the season worthy of a mention? Layering skirts and dresses over trousers and thigh-high boots.
