Phil OhAs another cycle of the fashion season moves on to its final leg, all attention shifts over to the City of Light. The week certainly got off to a strong start, with Maria Grazia Chiuri paying homage to former creative director Marc Bohan at the Dior fall/winter 2024 show. The collection saw house staples in the form of classic tailoring and embellished gowns return, many with prints that directly referenced the Miss Dior line that was initially conceptualised to reach a younger audience. Encrusted sheer dresses hinted at the idea of barely-there fashion and nakedness, which was highlighted further at Saint Laurent later that evening. The idea of ‘transparency’ was illustrated through a curation of see-through silk dresses, draped around the models and accentuated with faux fur stoles and statement head wraps.
Off the runway, it seems that the idea of fashion as a body’s protective armour reigned supreme. Tailored outerwear was aplenty, from boxy blazers that were cropped at the waist to wrap coats cinched with a svelte belt. Red continues to prove its might as the colour of the season, whether in a monochromatic ensemble or in the form of geometric motifs and patterns that adorn several of the dresses and overalls. Pointed pumps and heeled boots graced the feet of most guests, adding a level of refinement to the structured silhouettes of their outfits.
