As the sad news of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing became known, this season’s London Fashion Week became the subject of scrutiny amid its upheavals. Brands including Burberry and Raf Simons altered their planned shows, while numerous others rescheduled their runway presentations to respect the day of the Queen’s funeral on September 19. However, the resilience of designers still shone through during this sombre time. The same could be said of London Fashion Week beauty. Much like the spirit of London’s fashion industry, notable moments of beauty burst through, including boldly pigmented face powder and accessorised hair.
The beauty hallmark of fresh, dewy skin was seen across shows including Edward Crutchley, Erdem and JW Anderson. However, designers Chet Lo and Paul Costelloe displayed grandiose expressions of colour through boldly pigmented face powders in hues including neon pink and sunset golden. For lips, a wine-like effect was achieved from Dilara Findikoglu’s vampire-esque smudging to Sinéad O’Dwyer’s deep burgundy pouts.
On the hair front, feminine styles were embraced including the piled up tendrils for Yuhan Wang and David Koma’s glamorous waves. Meanwhile, eyes that pop were a hit with plenty of embellishment and statement colour, as seen with the striking white lashes at Bora Aksu and Halpern’s pastel gems.
