As the month of December approaches with fervent cheer, jubilant clinks and merriment are in order. A shower of dinner parties, family gatherings and mouthwatering feasts await as an ode to the festive season and an inauguration of the new year to come. The flurry of get-togethers may ball into a blur at the end of the day, but make no mistake that a celebration at Koma is one for the books.

Since its inception in 2019, there’s no doubt the contemporary Japanese restaurant and bar at Marina Bay Sands turned heads. Its arched passageway reminiscent of the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto greets you at the entrance, an emblematic walkway. You step into the grandeur of the main dining space, where your eyes are drawn to a colossal bell that presides over a traditional footbridge. Lily pads on the wall mimic the surface of a tranquil pond. You’ll find you’re no longer in Singapore, but whisked away to discover the culinary wonders Japan has to offer.

The architectural elegance duly makes way for the menu, which speaks for itself. Personally curated by executive chef Shintaro Hozumi, a sushi course is presented with fresh seasonal ingredients deftly carved with hands trained in culinary artistry. Reigning in the Christmas gaiety are the exclusive seasonal specials, where you can enjoy a tailored 4-course menu that delights the tastebuds. It opens with an array of handcrafted Koma creations–from the likes of salmon, uni, king crab and seasonal vegetables. The sushi moriawase that follows suit reflects the chef’s keen selection of prime sashimi slices. You’ll follow suit with a premier cut of wagyu or buri, grilled robatayaki-style for a warm and tender contrast. End the night on a sweet note with a glacial snow globe dessert or a classic Christmas log cake. For those who favour savoury, a decadent plate of live abalone with caviar will certainly do the trick.

But of course, in the light of exuberant revelry, the night shouldn’t stop there. Koma’s bar and lounge offers a wide array of sake and wine, perfect for a tipple or two. Whether with friends or family, its extensive selection–with 30 types of sake and 390 selections of wine–is sure to please all who step in. Raise a toast with the bar’s 2 new cocktails, crafted exclusively for the festive season.
From its elegant interiors to the artisanal fare served to your table, Koma gives a reason to celebrate any occasion. Its service is an ode to the care and craftsmanship of the Land of the Rising Sun, making each moment spent there a momentous one.
Koma is located at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands #B1-67, 10 Bayfront Avenue Singapore 018956. To make a reservation, click here.
