26-year-old Kali Uchis is, simply put, a sensation. Young women all over the world flock to her shows, with the decree “f*ck the haters” on their lips. As a rising star with humble beginnings, it isn’t just that she skilfully handles multiple genres, and has caught the ear and interest of names such as the Gorillaz, Tyler the Creator and Snoop Dog. Kali is genuinely relatable to a large portion of the world’s population, as somebody whose sky rocketed to success after living out of a car at the age of seventeen. Her story is one of hard work and struggle that is finally paying off in a big way.

In her latest project we see Kali teaming up with one of the biggest duos in the Reggatron music scene, Puerto Rican artists Jowell and Randy. Their debut collaborative single is called “Te Pongo Mal (Prendelo)” and is Kali’s first entirely Spanish language project to be released. Could this be the project that garners the star at the very least her third Grammy nod? One thing is for sure: there will be many fans with fingers crossed around the world for her to take the gold home.
Now let’s chat about the ensemble—Kali is known to worship at the altar of eclecticism in both the way she blends genres of music together and selects what graces her body. A person who is seemingly uninterested in prevailing trends is a refreshing take to behold, especially in an era awash with influencers all trying to preach the virtues of the same handbag.
Do note: in order to replicate Kali’s mood, be unapologetic and don’t be afraid to show a little—or rather, a lot—of skin.
