Uniqlo has unveiled the latest instalment of its longtime collaboration with JW Anderson. As delicate flowers reveal their intricate petals, trees look greener than ever with the sun’s Midas touch, and the air feels new, we know spring’s reawakening is upon us. This feeling of stepping into the daylight is precisely what the spring/summer 2021 collection celebrates.
“The blanket stitching gives this feeling like the clothing was made generations ago by your relatives and the embroidery feels like needlepoint that maybe your grandmother did,” Anderson explains. “It feels authentic and grounded. During the pandemic I think a lot of people have taken up craft and I thought adding the embroidery touches was a nice way to reflect that.”
Since his first collaboration with the retailer in spring/summer 2017, Anderson has garnered a loyal following for his Uniqlo drops. The collection isn’t so much of ‘out with the old and in with the new’, but it is about appreciating the past while blossoming into the freshness of the future. With an intention to bring a sense of calm and peace in the form of a fresh start, the theme of ease threads through the range with materials consisting of cool linen and seersucker, neutral colours like brown and ivory, and simple silhouettes.
JW Anderson’s spring/summer 2021 collection for Uniqlo launches 23 April 2021.
