Even as 2022 slows to an end, our social media feeds are revitalised with outtakes from Jacquemus’s final fashion show of the year, Le Raphia. The French designer took to Le Bourget to showcase his vision for spring—enormous straw hats, boxy dresses, raffia fringe, and fresh bold colours. Amidst the iconic attendance list, our eyes shift to Blackpink‘s Jennie’s hairstyle. Right on cue, the South Korean singer waltzed in donning an asymmetric white opal outfit, tied together by a playful coiffure.
Jennie’s hair over the years
This isn’t the first time that the beauty icon had us swooning over her hairstyle. Yes, we’re reminiscing her buttery blonde locks in 2019 and more recently, the fashion-forward copper she brazenly wore in April.
These days, the Chanel ambassador is embracing her elegant loose curls in a deep brown hue—making it just that much easier to recreate her looks. Vogue Singapore speaks with expert hairstylist, Christvian Goh, to get all the tips and tricks to achieve Jennie’s latest hairdo.
Recreate Jennie’s hairstyle
Good hair prep is half the battle won. Goh recommends starting off with a sea salt spray to achieve the desired grip and texture for a hairstyle that can flawlessly carry you from main event to the after party. Contrary to other sprays, a sea salt infused spray makes all the difference. Even when struggling with flat hair, adding this to your morning routine can bring your crown back to life. By adding thickness and lending granular texture to your tresses, sea salt sprays make for easier styling—just some of the factors that make it a winning choice in his books.

Next comes the part we’re familiar with—curling. For that romantic, effortlessly tousled curls akin to Jennie’s, opt for spiral waves. Curl the face framing sections of your hair more tightly, while allowing the rest of the waves to sit loose. This technique helps to deliver a youthful and elegant look. A sturdy curling iron is essential for acing this technique–wrap your hair around for 10 seconds before releasing it to unveil a casual chic ‘do.
Once the base is done, the fun begins. Gather two to three random sections of your hair and begin braiding away. “Make it look as effortless as possible. One trick to get fatter looking braids is to lightly tease the hair before braiding it,” advises Goh. Once done, secure the braid with an invisible hairband before adding a dainty bow to each end.
“Finish it with a light hairspray or texturising spray,” shares Goh. “Avoid using strong hold hairspray as it will make your hair look clumpy.”
