What do Gucci and Pomellato have in common? They’re both Italian, for starters. The former a Florentine leather goods maker turned fashion giant, and the latter a Milanese jeweller built on a goldsmithing heritage. Those who are clued in to the workings of the luxury industry might have guessed at another connection: the two are sister brands in the Kering conglomerate.
All that, taken together, explains the first-of-its-kind partnership between the two houses: a co-created line of high jewellery that expresses a shared love of fine Italian craftsmanship. Named Monili, an Italian word that means ‘jewels’, the collection combines the best of both worlds. Sensuously curved and diamond paved lines of gold are the strength of Pomellato; while leather craftsmanship, wrapped on necklaces and bracelets where metal might meet skin, and on a pair of evening bags, is entirely in the wheelhouse of Gucci. Each bringing their talents to the table in a glamorous family affair of design.
