Under the gaze of Sofia Coppola, the Australian actor embarks on a dual, atmospheric exploration of New York and emotions. A bold and original encounter takes place between the photographer’s creative universe and the references that inspired the iconic bracelet. Jacob Elordi’s sister Isabella, meanwhile, lensed a series of behind the scenes photos of the duo.
Here, Sofia Coppola and Jacob Elordi discuss their collaboration, a tribute to Cartier’s Love.
Sofia, how did you first meet Jacob?
Sofia Coppola: I first met Jacob at the Polo Lounge when I was casting Priscilla. He’s like a true classic movie star. I was very impressed by his acting skills and his great generosity.
How did you feel working on this project?
SC: I loved working on this project with Jacob and for Cartier, because I feel a sincere warmth and closeness towards them both. I always enjoy photographing Jacob because he’s someone I really admire. He’s charismatic and charming, and the Cartier Love collection is a great classic. I enjoyed staging it in an intimate way, to create a soft and romantic impression that contrasts against lavish and grandiose photoshoots for luxury jewellery.
Your photos immerse us in the intimacy of Jacob Elordi.
SC: It was great to see Jacob and photograph him in a simple and relaxed way. I thought that since it was about love it had to be close to him, and I didn’t want it to be too ‘professional.’ It’s the idea of a romantic weekend in New York with Jacob, when you’re with someone you love and you don’t feel like doing much, just spending time together… with the New York skyline by the window, full of possibilities.
Jacob, what’s your connection with Cartier?
Jacob Elordi: I’m really excited about this new chapter. Cartier has such a rich heritage, especially in cinema. It’s timeless, but also constantly evolving. It’s an honour to be a part of their story in any way.
You’re embodying and photographing the Love Unlimited, which comes nearly 60 years after the creation of the very first Love bracelet. What do you think makes this piece of jewellery iconic?
SC: It’s a beautiful design, a classic and romantic idea. I love the fact that it’s both sweet and cool.
JE: The Love bracelet has always had something iconic about it, it represents more than just a piece of jewellery.
How did you feel about reuniting with Sofia after Priscilla?
JE: It’s always a pleasure working with Sofia. It felt natural to reconnect after Priscilla. There’s a great connection between us—we understand each other creatively and share the same vision for our work.
What does it mean for you to be photographed by someone you know, in particular Sofia Coppola and your sister Isabella Elordi?
JE: Shooting the project in New York was really special. Love has a very strong connection to New York and its cinematic history, and that’s the feeling we wanted to recreate. Having my sister Isabella present to capture moments throughout the shoot made the experience even more personal.
Jacob, what is your approach to jewellery?
JE: I don’t consider jewellery a direct source of inspiration, but there are pieces I always wear because their meaning is significant to me. It’s not a question of value, but rather of the memories associated with them. I love treasures and trinkets, they anchor me in the present.
What do you think of the Love Unlimited bracelet by Cartier?
SC: I love that you can wear it with anything, and that it reminds you of the person who gave it to you.
JE: The new Unlimited version adds an unexpected and modern touch.
Sofia, how are fashion and jewellery linked to cinema?
SC: There’s a long history of it. Films are made up of many details, and jewellery plays a role in this by showing you the type of character you encounter.
