The queens of K-pop, Girls’ Generation, are back to claim back their throne, with their first comeback together after a 5-year long hiatus of pursuing their solo careers. Titled Forever 1, the octet released a full-length album alongside an eponymous title track that came accompanied by a music video of glamorous visuals, high-energy choreography and a catchy chorus that was characteristic of the group’s heydays. The long-awaited album and music video dropped on 5 August—marking a full 15 years for the girl group since their debut—and it’s been a gleeful joy ride for their longtime fans who have been basking in the heart-warming message of their unified stand to stay together despite the various ups and downs over the years.
Not only does ‘Forever 1’ sample their very own debut track from 2007, ‘Into The New World’, but the frenetic music video also makes clear nods to the past via high-octane visuals; all 8 members are seen in high-chromatic separates, summer-fresh baby-tees, micro-shorts and slinky minis, nostalgic of the late noughties when they ruled the roost. Throughout the music video, snapshots of Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun galavanting through their seasons of individual stardom are splashed in-between and similarly expressed through their distinctive style differences—from Yuri’s maximalist ensemble courtesy of Dundas to Tiffany’s sultry Dolce & Gabbana corset look and Sooyoung’s suave sophistication in her Alex Perry cut-out dress.
It’s a notable gesture that pays its due acknowledgment to how each of the 8 members have succeeded in their own ways, be it acting, modelling or simply pursuing their solo musical careers. But sans the meaningfully-imbued style captures from their latest music video, some members of the octet, especially those in the dance unit, have also proven that they’re well-attuned with the sartorial world—even in their downtime wardrobe of traipsing through the streets of Seoul. Below, we double down on some of the members’ best personal style moments, as seen on the ‘Gram.
