Japanese fashion designer Hanae Mori has died at age 96
At the age of 96, the prolific Japanese haute couture designer Hanae Mori has died in her private family home. Mori had been the first Asian and Japanese designer to have entered the world of high fashion—swiftly joining the ranks of Paris haute couture back in 1977. As a designer, she has seen a range of celebrities and high-profile individuals dress in her clothes, from Hollywood celebrities such as Grace Kelly and Nancy Raegan to shining royalty in the vein of Princess Grace of Manaco and Japan’s Crown Princess Masako. Mori’s design trademark was one that mixed her own heritage with the West: producing silhouettes that were inspired by kimonos or having Japanese imagery such as blossoms, calligraphy and butterflies imprinted all over her runway shapes.

Son Heung-Min appointed as Calvin Klein Underwear ambassador
In what seems like a natural move for the signature underwear label, Calvin Klein’s most recent brand ambassador is none other than South Korea’s national pride and reigning football star Son Heung-Min. The national team captain was announced to be fronting the Calvin Klein Underwear campaign for the Embossed Icon collection, alongside Blackpink member and fashion It-girl Jennie Kim. “Calvin Klein products have had a special place in my wardrobe for years, so our partnership is a natural fit. Like so many people around the world, I am constantly inspired by the brand’s iconic campaigns, so to be the face of one is both exciting and surreal,” said Son of the appointment. It certainly appears that the Tottenham Hotspur forward is having a scintillating year, recently winning the 2022 Premier League Golden Boot and being the first Asian to do so.

Michael Jordan’s NBA Finals jersey is being auctioned on Sotheby’s
Michael Jordan’s career was one marked by many wins but none were quite as prolific as his final year with the Chicago Bulls. In the 1997-1998 NBA season, the legendary basketball player made history for being the first to score a triple-double in an All-Star Game. Till this day, the game still garners traction and the attention of hardcore fanatics; Netflix documentary ‘The Last Dance’ surrounding the memorable season of ball play is a simple testament to that. Ahead of the 25th anniversary of the unforgettable season, Sotheby’s has decidedly auctioned the exact same jersey he had played in: Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals Game 1 jersey. Notably just one of two Finals jerseys to be auctioned out of his six championships—the jersey was on exhibition in Monterey, California from 17 to 20 August, before bidding opens on 6 September.

Ralph Lauren heads to the West Coast for his spring 2023 show
For the first time ever, Ralph Lauren will be showing his spring 2023 ready-to-wear collections for both men and women in Southern California, a marked step away from his usual runway presentations in the East Coast. The New-York based label’s last runway showing was in March, where the eponymous designer converted the Museum of Modern Art into an intimate space meant to replicate the designer’s own apartment on Fifth Avenue, for his fall 2022 collection, with models like the Hadid sisters walking down his living room-like runway. Considering his previous stint, much can be anticipated from the upcoming West Coast show on 13 October, which has only been teased to be “a special fashion experience that will be uniquely Ralph Lauren” according to the brand.
