Elle Fanning knows her way around some seriously special jewellery. Since being named a Cartier ambassador in 2023, the actress has brought out some of the best of the Parisian jeweller at her red carpet appearances. She’s grown from being the face of its French Riviera-inflected Grain de Café collection to wearing spectacular, one-of-a-kind high jewellery pieces.

The latest outing by Fanning at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards saw the actress choose to wear one of the hero designs from Cartier’s current high jewellery collection. Titled En Équilibre, this collection was first unveiled in Stockholm, then Beijing, with a third chapter to follow soon. The idea of the collection is the sublime balance inherent in the Cartier style. Lines, volumes, and colour held in taut harmony, perfectly so. The very fine line, in other words, that separates opulence and elegance from vulgarity and excess.

Fanning’s necklace at the Golden Globes was the Pavocelle, which is named after the Latin “pavo” for peacock, and “ocelle” from the French for the eye motif on a peacock’s tail feathers. Peacocks—or at least their colours—are one of the more if-you-know-you-know Cartier design signatures, a palette of blue and green favoured by Louis Cartier dubbed the peacock motif.

The blue of the idea is retained in the design thanks to its centre gemstone: an impressive oval cabochon sapphire, weighing 58.08-carats, from Sri Lanka. What’s interesting, though, is that Fanning chose to wear the necklace without the sapphire.

True to Cartier’s tradition of transformable high jewellery, the main sapphire motif on this necklace can in fact be removed and worn as a brooch. Once taken out, the Pavocelle transforms into a full-diamond creation, joined in the front by a pear-cut D IF 1.03-carat diamond pendant. The gemstones are set on platinum, sculpted to create wave-like layers that evoke the sense of a peacock fanning its tail feathers. Look closely at the fine arrangements of diamonds and wing shapes and they reveal some sense of the exquisite craftsmanship of the Cartier high jewellery ateliers.
Though the Golden Globes are now out of the way, 2026’s Awards Season has just begun. Fanning, who co-stars in Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value with Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård, is sure to be making a few more appearances. Just last year, Cartier high jewellery accompanied first-time Globes and Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña—who, aptly, was announced shortly after the award ceremonies as a brand ambassador. Here’s hoping some of that magic follows the jewels and Fanning.
