With her career having gone from strength to strength since rising to mainstream popularity in 2018, Vogue Singapore’s April cover star Doja Cat has become as known for her bold beauty looks as for her musical prowess. While singles such as Say So and Get Into It (Yuh) have cemented her star status, Doja’s make-up choices mirror her adventurous release concepts.
Whether it’s her hair length or ensemble-pairing nails being refreshed, Doja isn’t one to regularly repeat her full beauty choices. Though she’s partial to a neutral lip and subtly bronzed base, it’s her exaggerated eye make-up and hair hues that vary to a dizzying extent across every rainbow shade. Of course, at times she opts for a softer style of beauty that is a statement all in itself.
For Doja, make-up is about play. In a 2021 Allure interview, she shared that make-up “can give people a pass to experiment, be different, and have fun.” It’s an attitude certainly reflected by her most vibrant beauty choices.
Read on for our highlights among Doja’s scene-stealing beauty looks:

Neon club kid
In 2020, Doja epitomised her experimental attitude towards beauty with an avant-garde, tennis-inspired look on her Instagram account. Crediting hairstylist Jazmeen and make-up artist Adam Burrell for the look, highlighter yellow and neon lime were a game, set, match from her hair and eyes to her two-toned nails.

Romantic flush
At the iHeartRadio Awards, Doja presented an atypically pared back beauty style. To get her look, think sweet romantic loose curls, blushing cheeks, and pencil-drawn freckles to top off a flushed glow.

The multi-dimensional smoky eye
Looking every inch the vibrant vamp as she arrived to the 2021 VMAs, Doja drew inspiration from her two-toned Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood gown, with her voluminous black-and-red curls matched by her stand-out smoky eye. Iridescent blue covered her lids while warm purple swept up to her brow bone, reminiscent of jewels.

Pops of jewel tones
Doja showed off a cartoon-esque beauty for 2021’s Billboard Music Awards at which she scooped up numerous accolades. In a clever nod to her statement jewellery, Doja’s eyes each sported a large, dark wing outline flanked by licks of turquoise. Doja’s gelled baby hairs and tight braids completed the other-worldly effect.

Sleek Silver Bombshell
In another distinct ensemble at the 2021 VMAs, Doja took to the hosting stage as a complete bombshell. Her cascading silver hair took centre stage whilst her make-up was kept decidedly neutral: full eyelashes, mauve eyeshadow and a matching glossy lip.

Nailing it in rhinestones
For the 2020 Billboard Music Awards where Doja took home the Top R&B Song award, it was all about bronze. Doja paired her copper-coloured hair with a warmly contoured base, while her lavender nails were the perfect extension of her embellished, sheer gown.

Crimson pin-up waves
In 2021, Doja unveiled this behind-the-scenes look at her Planet Her album cover shoot via Instagram. Doja was the epitome of Old Hollywood glamour, albeit with her signature vividly hued twist, showing striking red waves that matched her uncharacteristically bold lipstick. A dramatic eyeliner wing, separated lashes and sweeps of rose across Doja’s cheeks made for brilliant beauty touches.

Smouldering '20s glamour
Doja manages to make a statement even in a softer style of make-up, as apparent with her choice of beauty for the 2020 American Music Awards. She signified odes to 1920s glamour with her cropped-length locks, their caramel shades setting the tone for her lip colour and sculpted cheekbones.

Piled platinum curls
For the 2021 Balmain Festival in Paris, Doja revealed the best of her chameleon-like approach to beauty, transforming with piled up platinum curls. Deep and dusty pink accentuated her matte lipstick and sparkling shadow, while graphic white eye details made for a subtle beauty statement.

Dopamine candy colours
Never one to shy away from bold use of colour, Doja unveiled this fairy floss-tinged look on her Instagram in 2019. Candy colours were evident from her startling pink hair to her gradient eyelids, washed over with silver and framed by deep, contrasting purples. She also wore her signature winged eyeliner and neutral lip, albeit in a fittingly soft pink shade.
