Many award shows taking place this season have embraced a hybrid setting in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the trend, the Billboard Music Awards 2021 welcomed remote performances from the likes of BTS, who debuted the performance for their new record-busting English single “Butter” direct from Seoul. Also gracing the stage was Alicia Keys, who performed a nostalgic medley of songs, including hits like “A Woman’s Worth”. The Weeknd, P!nk, SZA, Doja Cat, and DJ Khaled feat. H.E.R. and Migos likewise shined in their performances.
Hosted by Nick Jonas, the awards saw artists sweeping a multitude of categories. The artist of the night was The Weeknd, who won ten of the sixteen categories he was nominated for, including Top Artist, Top R&B artist, and Top 100 Artist. The night also saw BTS snag four awards, including Top Social Artist (for the fifth year running), Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, and Top Selling Song (“Dynamite”). Adding to the list of big wins was Taylor Swift, who nabbed Top Female Artist and Top Billboard 200 Artist.
Besides the memorable moments on stage, the red carpet was just as captivating, with summer-ready colours, and a whole lot of shimmer and shine. Alicia Keys’ coordinated Valentino ensemble, complete with matching cape, was a showstopper. H.E.R was resplendent in a sequinned number from Dior. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ sparkling gold dress appeared to be inspired by Cher, with the wide belt and deep slit. Padma Lakshmi’s white, bedazzled suit also upped the glam quotient of the event. And, BTS once again went with matching outfits, this time opting for sleek black suits.
With unforgettable musical performances and fashionable outfits coming together, the Billboard Music Awards 2021 was one to remember. We invite you to take a look and get inspired by Vogue Singapore’s best-dressed list from the showcase.
