There’s nothing like an energising splash of red or orange to add vibrancy and excitement to a room, or a touch of soft blue or green to infuse a living space with serene calm. A reflection of one’s individuality, incorporating different colours into the living space is a way of making spaces feel unique and personal. After all, our homes are nothing if not canvases for self-expression.
Beyond that, integrating vibrant hues into a living space can also be helpful from a design standpoint. Jade Cham, founder of Knock Knock Studio, shares: “Vibrant colours can act as spatial markers, helping to define areas within a home. For instance, a bold teal can highlight a dining nook, while a cheerful yellow can brighten a workspace. They can also create illusions of space lighter tones make a room feel larger, while darker shades add depth and cosiness.”
Here, Cham picks out two trending colour combinations and shares her best tips for seamlessly incorporating vibrant hues into the home.

Jade’s styling tips
- Test before you commit: “Obtain samples of paint, fabric and other materials to see how they look under various lighting conditions in your home. For example, a pale pink might feel warm during the day but could appear beige under artificial lighting.”
- Create a colour hierarchy: “Choose one hero colour to anchor the space and complement it with quieter tones. For example, a deep emerald green sofa can serve as a bold centrepiece, balanced by soft neutral walls and subtle gold accents to maintain harmony.”
- Embrace flexibility: “Incorporate vibrant colours through easily changeable elements, such as curtains, bedding or artwork, rather than permanent fixtures like tiles or built-in cabinetry. This allows you to refresh the space as trends or personal preferences evolve.”
- Leverage tools and mood boards: “Use design apps to visualise how colours will look in your space, and create mood boards to guide your choices and ensure cohesion.”
