Brace yourselves, television’s biggest night is officially upon us. This morning, the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards kicked off awards season with a constellation of A-list stars arriving at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. Hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, the ceremony honoured the year’s best productions and performances in television. This year marks its 77th iteration, and serves as a continuation of the ongoing grapple between some of the buzziest shows of 2024—from The Diplomat to The Last of Us. The front-runner of the night being Apple TV’s Severance, which received a whopping 27 nominations, followed closely by The Penguin and The White Lotus, which got 24 and 23 nods, respectively. While The Studio broke the record for most nominations in a comedy’s first year, Ayo Edebiri became the first Black woman to earn nominations for both acting and directing in the same year.
And that’s far from the only showdown at this awards show. The red carpet, too, was a battleground in itself, with our favourite starlets showing up in nothing but their sartorial best. Hollywood stars such as Scarlet Johansson, Jenna Ortega, Pedro Pascal, and Sydney Sweeney all gathered in glamorous suits and gowns. Emmy’s darling Selena Gomez swooped in wearing a fiery red custom Louis Vuitton gown. The long dress with a dramatic train gave it the perfect old Hollywood charm. At the same time, the rest of the celebrity set were spotted in naked barely there dresses, from Jenna Ortega’s gem covered top to Lauren Graham’s sultry black sheer dress with cutouts. Meanwhile, some of the most dapper gentlemen of the night embraced tailoring and classic silhouettes in fresh ways. From Adam Brody’s pale blue Prada tuxedo to The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal’s sleek all white Celine suit.
