The red carpet saga continues—in Cannes. Back for its 77th iteration, the Cannes Film Festival 2024 is officially in full swing and there’s no doubt that the French sleeper town will soon see an exponential number of stars fill its streets, and rekindle the city’s identity as a prestigious film hub. After all, the acclaimed film festival is often home to the industry’s most highly-anticipated pictures, and also where unexpected gems are discovered. One only needs to recall the astronomical success of Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall starring Sandra Hüller—which eventually earned itself Best Original Screenplay at the 96th Academy Awards.
For 2024, Cannes will once again welcome some industry heavyweights to the French Riviera. And as always, the star-studded affair will welcome a glossy red carpet scene—with A-listers and esteemed invitees all rocking up in their sartorial best. By way of a box office hit, Anya Taylor-Joy will be making her highly-anticipated appearance for the premiere of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, after sightings of her in town—her most recent being a sheer Jacquemus gown from its latest bridal collection. Meanwhile, Francis Ford Coppola makes a beeline for his first big-screen release since 2011 with Megalopolis starring the likes of Adam Driver and Aubrey Plaza. With Hong Kong director Peter Chan’s She’s Got No Name lined-up in the roster, some big Asian names will also potentially be arriving in town for Cannes this year, such as megawatts Zhang Ziyi, Zhao Liying and Yang Mi.
With the opening night done and dusted, a number of actors and industry names have since made their starry appearances. Whilst Oscar-nominated Lily Gladstone—a member of this year’s jury—was a glitzy vision in Gucci, Meryl Streep swooped in wearing a pristine Dior couture number for the evening. Meanwhile, Eva Green stole the show in a glorious Armani Privé gown, after an equally stunning show at the afternoon photo call where she wore a monochromatic Vivienne Westwood ensemble.
Set to span over ten days, we highlight the best red carpet moments from the Cannes Film Festival 2024 below, with only more to come.
