At last, we’re approaching the finish line to this year’s awards season: the Oscars 2024. Where film vanguards will gather to celebrate the crème de la crème on the golden screen: 2024’s salient nominees. And if this year was proof of anything, the reverberations of Barbenheimer have delivered outstanding nods—from Barbie in the running for Best Picture, Ryan Gosling’s satirical-gone-viral hit ‘I’m Just Ken’ to Cillian Murphy, who’s poised to take home Best Actor for his portrayal as the father of the atomic bomb in Oppenheimer. About time, we say.
Sure enough, the lead-up to Hollywood’s biggest night has been nothing short of showstopping; with nominees pulling out all the stops on the red carpet. We’ve seen the crimson hue take over in an array of iterations—see: Emily Blunt in Armani Privé and Dua Lipa in Prada at the Critics Choice Awards. A number of custom Louis Vuitton creations have also been spotted, by way of Best Actress nominee and house ambassador Emma Stone, who has been emulating a certain kookiness in her choices, as if to reflect her aberrant role as Bella Baxter in Poor Things. Speaking of method-dressing, streaks of pink have also been aptly incorporated by real-life Barbie, Margot Robbie.
Could this really be the last Barbie-esque look we’ll see from Robbie? It could very well be, but in the meantime, the Vogue Singapore fashion team has a few ideas on our own. As copped from the recent runways, we’ve conjured our red carpet wishlist for the nominees of the Oscars 2024.

Cillian Murphy
He was fearsome, he was haunting. The man in question? Cillian Murphy, whose delivery of Dr. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s atomic biopic is one that has finally earned him a long-awaited nomination for Best Actor.

Cillian Murphy: Saint Laurent FW24
Seldom has an actor been this revered—much less for a character so infuriatingly complex. So should Oppenheimer’s leading man take his final bow over the course of this awards show circuit, might we demise that his choice of garb be menacing in equal measure? To that end, Saint Laurent’s recent menswear display for fall/winter 2024 proves supreme, and this cavernous caban coat of bold proportions will only be doing the man favours. For it bleeds a liquid, metallic black—just like the characters Murphy often finds himself drawn to. Ruinous, quietly sublime and astutely tailored to the winner-to-be.

Emma Stone
This year’s race to usurp the coveted Best Actress role is a tight one, but Emma Stone’s spectacular performance as Bella Baxter in director Yorgos Lanthimos’s genre-defying film Poor Things has earned her a nomination alongside 4 others.

Emma Stone: Louis Vuitton FW24
Nicolas Ghesquière’s fall/winter 2024 showing for the maison was a feast for the eyes, showing a plethora of texture, embellishments and materials in a versatile reflection of the Louis Vuitton woman. This look with fur, sheer and silk is the perfect reflection of Stone’s portrayal in Poor Things—brimming with eccentricities yet so incredibly hypnotic.

Jodie Foster
The famed child actress-turned-Hollywood star is no stranger to the bright lights of the Oscars. With her heartfelt performance in the 2023 American drama film Nyad (where she plays Bonnie Stoll) earning her a nod in the Best Supporting Actress category, this will be Foster’s 12th nomination to date.
6 / 14
Jodie Foster: Valentino FW24
Amidst a flurry of evening gowns and suave tuxedo pantsuits, Foster has quietly garnered a reputation through the years for being a style aficionado in her own right. And seeing that muted shades, sharp lines and dazzling embellishments all fall within her sartorial playbook, we think this look from Valentino’s fall/winter 2024 ‘Noir’ collection would certainly fit the bill. With the top boasting an exaggerated power shoulder and the feathered skirt unabashed in its approach, this look oozes of confidence and attitude, nothing Foster isn’t accustomed to.
7 / 14
Margot Robbie
While her portrayal of the iconic Mattel doll has been massively snubbed for Best Actress, Margot Robbie still has a leg in the game, as a producer with the film up for Best Picture.
8 / 14
Margot Robbie: Chanel couture SS24
To date, barbiecore remains to be an unshakeable tenet in Robbie’s looks—from the highly-anticipated Barbie press tour to this year’s award show circuit. And if this were to be the curtain call for the star’s repertoire in pink? It would be only fair to reunite the star with Chanel, given Robbie’s longstanding relationship with the house. Most of her iconic wardrobe changes in Barbie were also fitted by the French fashion house. Pink, Oscar-worthy and befitting of a poignant farewell? This tulle fitted number from Virginie Viard’s recent couture show fondly comes to mind.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph
In The Holdovers, she plays the weary grieving Mary, but it is her devastating portrayal of the recently bereaved mother that has propelled her to the frontier—earning her a nod in the Best Supporting Actress category.
10 / 14
Da’Vine Joy Randolph: Jean Paul Gaultier couture SS24
As the Oscars signals the last lap of awards season, we’d expect nothing short of absolute opulence from Da’Vine Joy Randolph. It’s safe to say she’s nailed Old Hollywood glamour with a contemporary twist, with each awards show appearance an ode to timeless elegance. For her final descent however, it would be a beautiful segue for her to slip into this divine number. Not only is it the reigning hue of the season, but its deep crimson tone will also cast her a radiant glow. As for those magnificent layers of tulle? They’ll only hold fast and true to the quiet strength of her role—and the poignancy of Mary’s aching sorrow.
11 / 14
Ryan Gosling
He might just be Ken in Barbie, but also a nominee for Best Supporting Actor and the vocals driving ‘I’m Just Ken’, that’s in the running for Best Original Song.
12 / 14
Ryan Gosling: Balmain FW24
If there’s something Ryan Gosling can do, it’s to own a suit in his own signature nonchalant way. While his preferences with Gucci have never failed him, the actor has been veering towards more whites and pastels. It would be nice to see him embrace a darker side for the grand finale—perhaps with a splash of sparkle.
13 / 14
America Ferrera
Ever since exploding onto the scene with classics like The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and Ugly Betty, America Ferrera has undoubtedly become just that—America and the world’s sweetheart. Fast forward to 2023 and the actress, director and television producer has clinched an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress for her role of Gloria—the only female employee in Mattel—in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

America Ferrera: Schiaparelli couture SS24
Ferrera is no stranger to a beautiful, fitted gown. While she has opted for classic pieces from brands like Dior and Dolce&Gabbana, we would love to see her in something a touch more sculptural, yet equally as timeless, elegant and beautiful. While we love the over-the-top flare of Schiaparelli haute couture spring/summer 2024’s last look, look 27, a fitted strapless dress in a double nude satin with an aerodynamic bow is the perfect first step to a more experimental vision.
