When Shonda Rhimes’s series adaptation of Bridgerton first landed in our laps in 2020, it fed into our imaginations for a new sort of Regency-era drama: one that was both visually breathtaking and a taker for ravishing romance scenes with the potential to make any woman blush. Three seasons on, the latter requires no explanation; from the stolen moments between Daphne and Simon to Anthony and Kate’s undeniable chemistry that left the ton (read: us) only quivering in their wake. With the latest season now in our midst, our attention has no doubt been called to the friends-to-lovers romance blooming between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, but one thing’s for sure, the frivolous costumes, impeccable beauty notes and illustrious sets continue to draw our eyes.
By way of the latter, Emmy award-winning set decorator Gina Cromwell and production designer Will Hughes-Jones can be owed our good graces; their masterful moodboarding of the period drama’s stately homes and lush gardenscapes adding to the frothy fantasy that unfolded on our screens. So much so that through the seasons, we’ve learnt to associate certain colours with the different characters or families. Think the blushing blues of the Bridgerton household or the lemony-green splashed all across the Featherington’s drawing room.
