The art of colour-blocking is one skill Daniel Lee has clearly mastered. Bottega Veneta’s resort lineup was a searing palette of Lee’s painterly approach to hues, tones and shades—dubbed the Wardrobe 01 collection, the clothes were consciously and deliberately designed to be easy-to-wear staples.
Bearing resemblance to Rothko’s abstract paintings, Lee similarly assembled the looks in Wardrobe 01 by colours—leading first with elegance and wearability. The more classic permutations came in teal-mustard and teal-crimson parings, taking the form of wide-legged trousers and skin-tight knits. More unexpected styling combinations came as experiments with texture, prints and neutrals. Look to the beige trench teamed with a butter-yellow bag and red caged strappies, or the monochromatic knitted sets. Print-clashing may not be for the faint of heart, but our personal favourite: the tesselated constellation of green and yellow bodies, worn against an equally busy shoulder bag.
Consider this a Bottega capsule wardrobe of sorts—this was Lee’s blank canvas for some resort season repose. Below, the most compelling colour-blocking ideas from the Wardrobe 01 collection to inspire your next artful outfit.
