The fall/winter 2026 season was a spectacle in its own right. Following the debut runway collections at numerous maisons—recall the new faces at Chanel, Dior and Bottega Veneta—last season, this latest run of the fashion circuit put the new cohort of creative directors in a different light. If the spring/summer 2026 run allowed us to explore new sartorial universes, the sophomore collections unearthed fresh takes on house codes. Sans the excitement of a splashy debut, this season of second outings proved to be just the stage for designers to showcase what they are truly made of.
On the womenswear front, designers—whether seasoned names or newly inducted—seemed to sink deeper into what they already knew. For Matthieu Blazy’s second showing at Chanel, the runway show felt like true acceptance, allowing women to just be. The concept of being a work-in-progress made its way down the runway in frayed details, juxtaposed by shimmering tinsel finishes. The bags introduced by Blazy took house codes to greater heights: the classic Chanel Flap bag received an unexpected makeover—combining elements of the house’s 2.55 and 11.12 handbags—while bright pops of colour accentuated signature accessory silhouettes.
Statement bags also took over the runways this season. Jonathan Anderson, for one, introduced the Dior Bean, a sculptural peanut-shaped bag that dives deep into the brand’s archives. Borrowing its globular shape from a head pillow from 1957, the accessory appeared in various colour ways and fabrications throughout the collection. Meanwhile, over at Louis Vuitton‘s fashion-meets-nature runway show, Nicolas Ghesquière leaned heavily into nomadic themes—a concept not unfamiliar to the house. The maison’s fresh iterations of its trunks paid homage to the idea of travel, while novelty bags—shaped like tiny houses or small sacks tied to the end of wooden sticks—added a whimsical, over-the-top feel.
Keeping to that playful theme was Loewe. If Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez’s single-handle Amazona 180 bags from the spring/summer 2026 welcomed a new era for the house, the fall/winter 2026 iterations brought a more singular Loewe to the surface. The Amazona 180 found fun in fur-trimmed iterations and new colour ways, alongside printed Flamencos and even a sculptural clam-shaped clutch.
