Get ready with Ashley Park for the Next In Vogue gala
1 December 2023
Watch as the 'Emily in Paris' star takes us through her couture gown choice that she donned at Vogue Singapore's third anniversary gala, while trying a local delight along the way
“I’ve always approached fashion and wardrobe in terms of storytelling and I think that really goes hand in hand with what I do as an artist and as an actor,” Ashley Park tells Vogue Singapore, when asked about her personal affinity with fashion. The actor, best known for her role as Mindy Chen in hit Netflix series Emily in Paris, was here on our shores two weeks ago for Next In Vogue, our landmark event thrown in celebration of Vogue Singapore’s third anniversary.
Over the three-day extravaganza, she joined us for an exclusive panel ‘In Conversation With Ashley Park’, which saw her discussing Asian representation in the entertainment industry and how fashion has not only inspired creative expression but has allowed her to take up space and be heard. “With fashion, I want to keep exploring and surprising myself. I used to find stuff that I could hide behind wearing. Now, it’s about figuring out what really inspires me,” she shares.
To the star, the question of personal style is best encapsulated by the breathtaking gown she wore to our third anniversary gala—a swooping couture piece custom made for her by Asian-American designer Andrew Kwon. “I love something that feels timeless and classic and elegant, but also with an element that I’ve never seen before,” she adds. And the Grammy, Tony and Critics Choice-nominated actor surely delivered that sentiment on the carpet at The Singapore Edition; where the high-octane splendour was at its apex, the joy-filled mood of the evening, unrestrained. Her gown was the epitome of elegance: in line with the comfort she desired, yet a showcase of unexpected details such as the asymmetric lace sash draped across her shoulder.
But as Park herself exclaims, it was not a look that was instantly achieved. We go behind-the-scenes with the acclaimed actor, as she gets ready for the gala and shares with Vogue Singapore more about her choice of gown for the evening, her sartorial inclinations and of course, what she got up to whilst in town.
