There’s something for everyone on the streaming screen this May. From acclaimed black comedy thrillers to intense time-travelling dramas, this month’s lineup runs the gamut of film and television.
Film buffs can take delight in the weird and wonderful. Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia stars Emma Stone, continuing their collaboration following Poor Things. It’s a conspiracy-led spiral, with the kidnapping of a chief executive at the heart of it all. Meanwhile, Emerald Fennell and Jacob Elordi fans can indulge in her bold, saucy interpretation of Wuthering Heights, finally making its way to HBO Max. Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike was not a duo we saw coming, but trust their Netflix film Ladies First will be a winner.
Where K-dramas are concerned, a heroic adventure is in store with The Wonderfools. Park Eun-bin, Cha Eun-woo and Choi Dae-hoon form a chaotic suburban bunch whose latest problem involves saving the world with their newfound superpowers gained overnight. If you lean towards period dramas, My Royal Nemesis will do the trick. A Joseon-era villain clashes with the 21st century as she reincarnates as a modern-day actress, entangled in an irresistible enemies-to-lovers tale.
